Hi all I haven't been around for a bit. Here goes:
My husband's cousin...HER daughter, age 12,has many ailments among which are seizures. For the past 20 days she was seizure free. (to the best of my understanding!)
As of the past day or so she had ONE 10 minute seizure and ONE 8 minute seizure. She was taken to the hospital.
Based on hearing i was successfully controlled on lamictal for the past year at 100mg 2X daily, so the cousin/mom had lamictal added to whatever med regime her daughter is on....
IS THERE ANY INFO AMONG ANY OF YOU WHO KNOWS OF A CHILD TAKING MORE THAN 200MG DAILY??? lIKE 400MG? OR MORE?
dOES ANYBODY KNOW OF WHAT MEDS IN THEIR EXPERIENCE AFFECT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LAMICTAL????
Thanks for any help you all can give :)
(point of information- mom was told to contact me months ago and only now is asking cause her doctor in california where she lives said 'contact the cousin's wife/me cause the best result answers come from 'these' people!!!) ***DAMMED FOOLS PLAYING GOD WITH SEIZURE MEDS**** OYE

Re: emergency serious seizure lamictal question
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 2:38 PMhey lori, sounds like the dr. had no idea what he was doing. a typical seizure lasts for a few minutes. anything beyond that, is definitely life threatening for various reasons such as not getting oxygen to the brain. I think the dr should be worried about what's going on with your husband's cousin's daughter instead of wondering what you are taking. she sounds like she needs alot of extra attention. i'm not sure how high the recommended limit for children is, but i do know it's lower than adults'. and no, i haven't heard of children taking 400mg or more. i can sense and feel your frustrations, especially when it comes to doctors and treatment of seizures. i hope she will be ok (just wondering, are her other ailments contributing to those seizures?)

Re: emergency serious seizure lamictal question
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 9:52 PMwhen i was a child i was put through many different meds until they found one that really worked and that i could take (i wouldn't swallow pills) and what i ended up with came in capsules that can be broken open and the little beads inside can be mixed with a teaspoon of honey to disguise the taste. i don't quite remember the name - "something" Acid. it might help her. after 13 i started on dilantin which had bad side effects but still worked very effectivly. -

Re: emergency serious seizure lamictal question
Fri, August 12, 2005 - 10:42 PMMy advice would be for them to stop seeing that doctor. If this person's only advice is to ask you about your meds, then he is certainly a quack. Other than that I'd suggest getting a lawyer to sue this idiot.
I wish I could give more medical advice. Best of luck to you all.
